Being the first of its kind, more than hundred of Filipinos had taken the opportunity to avail the services and for the Philippine passport holders had saved their time, effort and money in travelling to Vancouver.
Headed by Consul General Ruth Morales-Prado, the consular outreach program was held at Calgary Marlborough Community Centre last March 19, 20 and 21, 2010.Calgary core group volunteers for the consular services include Jose “Pepito” Magpayo, organizing chairman of TV Pilipino, president Philippine Media Society of Alberta and associate editor of Alberta Filipino Journal; Flor Viray, past president- Batangas Association; Lydia Siapno, Young Once Seniors Club; Lou Ang, owner Solid Industries Ltd., Isabelita “Dina” Santos, Wildrose Lions Club; Lito Viray, president, Capangpangan Association; and Francisco “Pepe” Siapno, president, Young Once Seniors Club. IRemit Global Remittance was the major sponsor of the consular outreach program. Jose “Jun” Angeles, of Edmonton and associate publisher of Alberta Filipino Journal and president of Council of Edmonton Philippine Association (CEFA) was present. And other Filipino leaders in Calgary helped at the outreach program.
For three days, Filipinos had a chance to renew their Philippine passports at to get some other consular services. The pictures taken by Jun Angeles probed the popularity and necessity of this kind of service from the Philippine Consulate General office in Vancouver.
And with this success, who knows that it will be held again sooner or later.
