2010 proves to be cooperative and frutiful for the Winnipeg-based New Wave / Postpunk-influenced Filipino band haLf man haLf eLf.
On February 9, haLf man haLf eLf performs at Ozzy’s Bar at Osborne Village Motor Inn, on Osborne Street, with Canadian artists Here the World and Jordan Ashlin.
On February 19, haLf man haLf eLf headlines “Rock against Ignorance,” to be held at West End Cultural Centre. Other performers are Here the World, Narra, Skip the Silence, and Sacrament. The event will also showcase art and photo exhibits by Ronald Yaya and Arnel San Jose. Respectively.
On February 27, haLf man haLf eLf with fellow bands Here the World and RYZE will provide an entertainment of original music at a post-Valentine social dubbed as “Red, White & Winter,” taking place at Philippine Canadian Centre of Manitoba.
haLf man haLf eLf’s regular recording sessions at Chill Recording Studio (http://www.chillrecordingstudio.com), 697 Sargent Avenue, for their planned debut CD—entitled Tales from a Half Forgotten Era—is ongoing. Thanks to Reiss Zurbyk, the studio’s owner and sound engineer, for the superb accommodation and excellent production and for rendering the dancing basslines; and also to Tristen Grant for laying in the drum tracks. The album also features many non-conventional musical instruments like trumpet, flute, harp, bagpipes, banjo, mandolin, and xylophone.
haLf man haLf eLf’s primary objectives are to endorse Filipino music and culture by performing mostly self-penned compositions and to promote musical awareness by recognizing the diversity of music genres.
haLf man haLf eLf consists of Gilbert Trillana (keyboards), Jun Villanueva (guitar), Bert Nicanor (cajon/drums), Aldo Cazianis (guitar), aLfie vera mella (conductor/vocals/keyboards), and Evawwen Lii-athné Frriloem O. Mella (mascot). The band wishes to thank their respective families and also Johnny Holmes, Tyler Holmes, and John P. Holmes of the Canadian local band Here the World for their continuous support for our projects.
