Poll Body Junks Disqualification Cases

 The Commission on Elections (Comelec) First Division has junked the disqualification cases filed by lawyer Elly Pamatong against Senators Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, Manuel Villar, and Manuel Roxas II.

Pamatong filed the case based on the allegation that the three candidates violated the ban on premature campaigning. The poll body however denied Pamatong’s petition for “lack of merit.”

In a recent Supreme Court resolution, the high court ruled that broadcasting infomercials before the start of the campaign season should be considered as an exercise of the candidates’ freedom of expression.
